Introduction

Many years ago, in a distant town (long before many people could remember) a young boy called Maxwell bought his twin brother Kelii a tiny teddy bear – one that was going to be cherished and loved unconditionally for many years to come. LittleTeddy and his “boy” Kelii had many amazing adventures together, travelling the world and sharing the most exciting adventures. In fact, their exploits are too numerous and wondrous to be catalogued here. Suffice to say, LittleTeddy was adored by his “boy” and, in return, he offered his complete and total obedience in a way that only a teddy can. Time took its toil on LittleTeddy and, after years of childhood affection and adventures, one of his eyes had become lost and the stuffing in his two legs became diminished. However, this did not matter to Kelii, who offered his love as only a young child can and LittleTeddy knew only a life of bliss and contentment throughout his early years.

Origins

Alas, little boys grow up and the next chapter of LittleTeddy’s life remains obscure. Nevertheless, somehow LittleTeddy found himself in the caring companionship of a young street urchin named Gadet Starsider. Eventually, using his mechanical brilliance, Gadget was able to breathe life into the worn bear with the insertion of a brand new clockwork brain. LittleTeddy’s missing eye was replaced with a bizarre looking contraption that may be described later, in a further story. His two recessive legs were enhanced by the most elegant artificial device. This enabled LittleTeddy to walk once more, faster and more efficiently than he had ever known before in his life. It was this new lease of life that enabled LittleTeddy to once again become independent and mobile, to lead him to new and exciting adventures and to meet the most wonderful array of new friends.

Notes

In 1886, as LittleTeddy starts to explore the Victorian city of London, he stumbles upon, by chance, Margery Winifred Williams; the five year daughter of a local noted barrister. Passing her house LittleTeddy is distracted by the sounds of giggling girls and becomes enchanted with a story that he eavesdrops upon. As he listens outside their open window, he overhears Margery invent a story about a stuffed velveteen rabbit and its quest to become real through the love of his owner. LittleTeddy becomes inspired by the concept of a toy becoming “real” and, in his subsequent night time visions, he quietly dreams of the day when he too may fulfil his private ambition and become a “real” toy also. LittleTeddy’s story is a recount of his efforts in doing this.
